This new Movable Type template is almost to where I want it. I'll tweak it further in the days (or weeks) to come.
But I figure it's about time to start using the new domain and this new blog! (though I have uploaded almost 2 years of prior entries)
Woohoo! :)
And I thought Bush was arrogant! It seems Govenor Ehrlich has instructed the Comptroller not to release all the state funds it had planned for to many state agencies. It averages to be about 10% of what they were to get. This is something unprecedented. He claims its to keep the state afloat financially.
"The move surprised and confused Democratic legislative leaders, as well as officials with the University System of Maryland.
In recent days, Ehrlich has said that an improving economy and an unexpected infusion of federal funds might reduce the severity of cuts needed to head off a budget shortfall projected to approach $1 billion for the second year running. This week, the administration told university officials to prepare for reductions of $40 million, rather than cuts of as much as $60 million that Ehrlich had warned of earlier. That notice prompted college officials to recalculate a package of tuition increases that was to be voted on tomorrow by the Board of Regents.
Yesterday's order, however, instructs the comptroller to reduce payments to universities by more than $87 million, a number that university officials had not heard discussed. Schurick declined to explain the discrepancy, saying that he does not expect the university system to be required to "absorb more than $40 million in cuts.""
Summer has arrived and the rain has ended for now. We're going straight from the 70s into the 90s as a result. Hot, hot, hot!
I went to the dermatologist yesterday. I was amazed at how quickly he heard my complaints and scribbled off prescriptions. I think he barely looked at me. I talked longer with the nurse prior. This process did not give me the warm and fuzzies. Granted my 'issues' were minor. But I would have like to have been able to ask questions if I had any. This appointment felt a bit more than rushed. I think I waited 40 minutes and saw the docror for 5 minutes. Sheesh.
Then since it was 4 pm, I opted not to go back to the office. Instead I went to MVA Express. I was thinking I'd get a whole new license with my new address. But when I got there, the line was so bad that I opted to fill out the form and get a card with my new address and forego getting a whole new license. LOL.
Then I decided to go over to VEIP to get my car emmisions inspection. Of course I picked the wrong line twice. Finally I switched lines a third time. I hated doing that, but by doing that I finally got done prior than I would have if I stayed in either of the two lines. So it was worth switching a third time. Of course, if I had picked better to begin with, I would have been done even sooner. A couple of the lines were clearly faster. And I hadn't been close to the new lane that opened. So plenty of folks who arrived later were finshed before I was.
And BTW my car did pass. LOL.
More weather news. Turns out we've had so much precipitation these last several months that even the Doppler radar is ready to quit! LOL. Seriously! Since the folks at the National Weather Service haven't been able to take it off line long enough to PM the system (preventitive maintenance), the Doppler is acting funny.
Enough to make anyone feel ill. Oy. Wake up America and smell the coffee.
Rain, rain, go away, come back in September, LOL. Another day won't cut it. The Washington DC area has received about 12 inches of rain since May 1st. We've had more rain than Seattle! Any little bit of sun we get picks up everyone's mood. Because when it is not raining, it's usually cloudy. :(
'Roe' Seeks to Overturn Abortion Law Oh please...why? To asuage her guilt? Women have had abortions performed for centuries. With that ruling they were able to safely and without fear of persecution. Does she suggest we go back to using clothes hangers in back alleys? And why with the modernization of medicine should the ruling be reversed? I don't get that leap in logic.
The fact is the decision on whether or not to bring a life into this world is a highly personal decision. To have the government poking its head in to that personal decision is unwarranted and unwanted. If the GOP wants to get out of having social responsibilities, then I don't see why it should take on the responsibility of telling a woman what she should or shouldn't do with her life and her body. But the current administration are a bunch of lying hypocrites that have come to office with a huge laundry list of agenda items.
All I know is its about time we kick this bunch of bible thumping, silver spooners and war mongers out of office. They are not serving this country and its people. They are only out to serve a small miniority...making the rich conservatives richer.
And I had a small glimmer of hope yesterday when a guy from work mentioned that a very conservative Republican friend from the MidWest told him that these days he was ashamed to be a Republican with all the stuff Bush has pulled! Amazing but true. If more than just one MidWest Republican can see the threat Bush is to this country, perhaps we can vote the bum out.
Counterterrorism official who quit Bush administration has joined up with John Kerry's campaign. Quite an interesting turn of events. Could things be getting ready to bite Bush in the ass? One can only hope, LOL.
I had a strange phone call several years back. It was from a former classmate from back in 3rd grade. She called not to reconnect or see how I was doing, but to confess that she had stolen a $2 bill out of my desk in class. It seems she was still guilt stricken about it all these years later. She wished to clear her conscience. Me, I had no idea what she was talking about. If I had had a $2 bill stolen, I had long since forgotten about it, LOL. :)
There are some fucked-up people in this world. I happen to work with a pair of them who seem to take pleasure in being manipulative and mean-spirited. (That's the nice way of not using the c-word, when I really want to, LOL). This pair of girls found it necessary to get me nothing for my housewarming party, though they act like they are my best friends. They want to be amidst everyone's personal lives, yet they do so to have material to use against those people. Recently, they have found it necessary to ask me what is happening with another co-worker and her fiance. I have let them know there is nothing wrong and the question is unwelcome as this girl likes her private life kept private. Of course they won't quit trying to find out. And the sad thing is this coworker has in fact broken up with her fiance, but yet doesn't want these bitches to know. Can't say I blame her. It just makes things more complicated.
Everytime I think I have my eyes wide open to their conniving ways, I find myself astounded as to how low they will stoop. Nothing should surprise me at this point. Only a new job will get me away from this pair. *sigh*
It's about time! I couldn't get into the new version of Blogger until just now. I was getting quite irritated with the whole thing. Depending on how well this version works, will determine whether I stick with Blogger or go to something like Movable Type. I now have that option since my brother and I have purchased a domain! So expect a few changes soon......Cha..Cha..Changes, LOL.
The atmosphere at work has lightened up, and appears more hopeful than it has more recently. If we're lucky things will continue to look better. But I won't be holding my breath, LOL. I'll still be looking for another job, but this puts less pressure on me to find one quite so quickly. I can be choosier. :)
I've got two new CDs that rock....The Matrix Reloaded Soundtrack and Evanesence's Fallen. Highly recommend both. Add them to your collection! ;) Jamming to the Matrix Soundtrack at the moment. (Rage Against the Machine)
Another 'Don't ya hate it entry'.
Don't you hate it when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't go to sleep because you begin to worry about something remote that might happen, but that you would otherwise not worry about if you weren't so tired? (Hope you're still with me after that run-on sentence.) And the worst part was I was too warm (which made it hard to sleep as well) but yet my heat was coming on in the house. Uggh.
My parents were here for the weekend because my Mom's Birthday was yesterday. Her reward was to get out of her house away from her grandchildren. LOL. She even brought stuff to leave in my basement bathroom for whenever she comes to visit. Methinks she'll be visiting me often in spite of the fact that I live 3 hours away. On the phone tonight she was mentioning how fast the three hours goes. Hehehehe.....
Dad fixed a few things, hung two ceiling fans and a light, and hung pictures. And when I say hang pictures, I mean he measures the wall to make sure the damned things are precisely centered, LOL. I'm really not that picky.
Mom went shopping with me Sunday. We made a series of quick stops that included Deck the Walls (picked up two things I had framed), Petsmart, Kohl's, Home Depot, Target, and Michael's. We had specific goals with each store and efficiently made it out of each one with surprising speed and still had much of the day left. LOL. Damn, we're good!
For Mom's birthday we bought her a Fujii Digital camera. Hopefully we've instructed her well enough on how to use it. If not she has the directions! LOL. She's technologically moving up in the world by leaps and bounds this year. First a computer, then a cell phone, and now a digital camera. I only have one of the 3 and my computer is 4.5 years old! What's wrong with this picture. ;) Actually my brother Brian has a digital camera that I can use. And I don't need folks calling me when I'm grocery shopping. But a new computer would be nice. Maybe by 2004 I'll be able to swing it. Honestly, the one I have has served me well....my Dell Dimension 350 MHz. Only my subwoofer and my keyboard have died. And the keyboard my brother took apart and resurrected it for his extra puter, LOL.
Okay...nuff rambling. Though it has been a long time since I've had a long personal entry.....
