Pearly Whites

I'm feeling quite overwhelmed this week with lots of activities and things to get done. Now adding to that list, I found this morning my gum is painfully swollen around my front lower tooth. Just what I needed. Hopefully the swelling will subside without me needing to go see a dentist about it.

Rumors of my demise

Still alive and doing well. Life is hectic with a variety of activities including a new romance. *gasp* Imagine that!

Pretty scary, eh?

Now I just have to de-spam my blog. *sigh*

Candlelight Vigil

Last night I attended a candlelight vigil to remember the 1000+ soldiers killed in Iraq. With less than 24 hours notice approximately 60 people joined together in this silent vigil. For 45 minutes, the group sat around the fountain outside the Rockville Courthouse silently reflecting on the war and the current state of the country. Or at least that's what I reflected on.

One woman had come 40 minutes from Jefferson, MD to attend. I believe she has family fighting in Iraq. There was a reporter from a local paper who took some photos to go with an article he was preparing about the vigil.

As the organizer of the vigil said, "Let's hope we don't need to do another of these."

Clearing the Air

For those who have ever taken the Tube or plan to in the future: London seeks ways to cool the Tube

Even when it was cool outside when I visited London in 2002, it was stuffy and warm or even hot on the Tube. One of the locals explained that the tubes are too narrow for the trains to carry AC units. That's because the Tube system was built prior to the invention of air conditioning.

Thank God the DC Metro has AC on its trains and its underground stations. That and people generally use deodorant here. ;) Otherwise it could get mighty stinky, especially since it gets hotter for longer in DC than in London.
