Over the Thanksgiving Holiday I finished reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. This book precedes the Da Vinci Code.
Ironically, in spite of its slower start, I found this book to be less predictable and I enjoyed it more. But then again I liked the concept of religion vs. science and what all that implies...including a look at the corruption within organized religion that seeks to quiet or destroy those who would disprove their teachings. And it also tinkers around with those mysterious Masons...including a reference to George Bush Sr. What I found the most interesting, was how Brown dealt with the concept of terrorism, having written the book pre-9/11. It sure fit into to the post-9/11 reality that we are in. Scary.....
Things have been up and down the last month or so with the relationship I've been in. I strongly suspect we're going down the friends path. I don't think I need this book to tell me that.
I knew going into the relationship that he had just ended a serious relationship. So I wasn't deluding myself that this was automatically going down a serious path. But for a while it did go down that path, in spite of my hesitation, and then eventually he got cold feet and stepped back. And since then he has been bobbing back and forth, confusing me as to what he wants and even what the hell I want.
In some ways I think it's a bummer since we think a lot alike on a lot of issues and enjoy many of the same things. But personality wise we are opposites with he being very much an introvert and me being mildly extroverted. So it shouldn't come as a complete surprise, I guess. But coming to that conclusion always makes me feel unsettled until there is actual closure. I have this bad habit of second guessing myself in spite of my certainty. It's a case where I'd love to be wrong, but I'm most likely right on target.
Shit, this sucks.
It appears for the last several weeks I've been receiving daily phone calls from Contact America, a call center to which businesses outsource their customer service and telemarketing services. I know this because it appears on my caller ID. However, I'd like to know what is so important they find it necessary to call me everyday, yet not important enough to simply leave a message? And who contracted them to call me?
If I could leave them a message, it would be, "stop calling, I don't accept solicitations."
Persistent buggers aren't they?
God I feel old....Bon Jovi is releasing a collection of 50 songs, many unreleased, in honor of being around 20 years and selling 100 million albums. Damn...where the hell did 20 years go?
Today at the supermarket I was in line behind an average looking young man. I had just turned around from unloading my cart, when dude bent over to put something in his cart. I was immediately assaulted by the visual of not only butt crack, but also tighty wighties that were majorly tearing from the waistband, with very large gaping holes showing flesh. I turned away as quickly as I could, but I fear I will be scarred for life. I almost wanted to say to the dude, "Target is just down the street, budy. You may want to stop in the men's department there ASAP." Or "Is your washer broke or is it laundry day today?"
Gee has been having dry skin due to the change in weather. Unfortunately, it causes him to itch which in turn causes him to bite himself near his tail. Since he now has a balding area with several small scabs that simply applying cortizone cream wasn't helping, I had pull out the big guns: I had to give him a bath.
I used a cornstarch cat shampoo that is supposed to ease the itching and moisturize his skin, along with a cortizone rinse that also eases itching. I bathed him with this about two days ago, and I can see that he rarely itches anymore. This stuff works like a charm. Gee just doesn't like the part about being wet, LOL. But he's actually a fairly patient cat, so I didn't end up clawed up or bitten. Tabitha wouldn't be quite so patient. ;)
Also, I have been running two humidifiers in the house in order to keep both Gee and myself from drying out much. God, I hate the dryness of winter air. As fast as I slap on lotion, I still have peeling skin around my nose. And my hands feel awful. Uggh.
I'm home this morning while my new heat pump is being installed. Our old one was 17 years old and it wasn't clear that it would make it through another winter. And even if it did, I don't think I would be liking my electric bill. Fortunately the new heat pumps are more energy efficient and produce warmer air.
For anyone who is not familiar with a heat pump, it's like a big air conditioner that warms the air, unlike a gas furnace that blasts out hot air. You never get hot air coming out of your vents, only lukewarm air with an electric heat pump. I would prefer to have gas heat, but unfortunately, they never ran the gas pipes through myneighborhood. So it's not an option.
In addition to spending loads of cash for a heat pump this week, last week I had to replace the washing machine which was also 17 years old. It had started to leak, probably from the pump. I got a pretty good deal on an Kenmore Energy Star Super Capacity Washer, but the timing of having to replace it just sucked.
Now we just have a 17 year old electric stove and electric dryer to replace. Every other appliance has been replaced, luckily not all by us. :)
Motherfucking spammers.....I think I will be disabling comments completely since I found my blog with 876 comments for having only 816 entres.,...in spite of me having closed many of those entries. I don't think I get hardly any traffic other than spammers. What's the point of them spamming a blog that no one reads? Bastards.
This is why I never post anymore....by the time I delete all this crap, I'm in no mood to blog. Arggghhhh.....
Well, the election is long over and it looks like I may be bitching about George for another 4 years. However, a good portion of his Admin appears to be bailing on him, LOL. It is to be seen whether that will be good or bad news. If Ashcroft goes, you know I won't be shedding many tears. ;)
Today is the day. I'm up early getting ready to go cover my polling place for the local Democratic Party. I'll be manning a table of democratic literature. Offf I go!
One more day....just one more day.....
And Thank God the Packers won! This is one trend or curse that had better not change. There had better be victory for Kerry tomorrow or they will need to start putting valium in the drinking water. ;)
