Work just keeps getting more depressing and bizarre at the same time. And yet I've not seen anything worth even submitting my resume for......
Meanwhile, my cat seems poised to step on my keyboard. Eh...nevermind. He changed his mind. Ahh..to be a cat. No work and all sleep and play. And no mortgage either. Doesn't sound like a bad deal? LOL.
My God, all the wackos have come out of the woodwork. From the mostly harmless but stupid folks that try to bring Terri Schiavo water (she's unable to swallow) to the guy who tried to steal a gun in order to kill Michael Schiavo to another guy who solicited for someone to kill Michael Schiavo and/or Judge Greer.
Uhhh...sanity check time. Any of these actions, if successful would end a life. Hmmmmm.....So much for protecting the sanctity of life.
There is an aspect of bad timing to this whole story. The fact that she will likely die during Easter weekend. That's probably adding to the extreme Christian Right hysteria. Meanwhile your average Christian is cringing at the actions of their brethren and longing for less distraction during this holy week.
Why won't they (the extremists) let Terri die in peace? I mean with death she'll finally be at peace. Being Christians, don't they believe she will be taken to heaven? Wouldn't that be a better place for her than in a vegetative state in a hospital? And why must the extremist Republicans accuse Democrats/Liberals of wanting Terri to die? I think 'wanting her death' is not quite accurate. What we want is for her wishes to be protected. Like many others, she dd not want extreme measures to be taken to keep her alive like this.
I realize some of the evidence for that relies on believing Michael Schiavo's testimony. But his was not the only testimony that indicated the Terri had expressed this desire before she became incapacitated.
Meanwhile John Edward, TV psychic, says that Terri is aware of what is going on. What he doesn't say is what she's thinking about the whole circus surrounding her. Not much of a psychic, is he? ;) The least he could do was confirm what she wanted. Or take a message for her parents or Michael.
I know...I'm bad.
The sad thing is I used to kinda take this guy half seriously. LOL
Awful Online Dating Pickup Line:
Hello Beautiful Princess,
I noticed your profile. I have a feeling that we would get along well.
First off, I don't find someone calling me beautiful princess a turn on. I find that kind of greeting cocky and patronizing. And otherwise the message tells me nothing about him nor does it offer up what about my profile he liked.
I interpret it as saying: "Yeah, I could do you."
That's all right, I'll pass.
I did receive a message from another guy that was more promising. He did offer up what he had in common with the stuff I wrote and seemed like a down to earth guy. Now I need to get a reply written and go from there. I find this online dating stuff to be awkward and almost tedious . As I found in the past, online chemistry and offline chemistry don't seem to translate all that well.
I guess all the online stuff does is allow you to screen the possibilities. It's the first date that can make or break the deal.
I carted my butt to the gym tonight and actually attempted a Step class. I made it through the whole class, but I find Step classes challenging because I have poor hand-eye coordination. I always end up using the wrong foot or turning the wrong way. It makes me feel like I'm mentally challenged or something. I much prefer strength training classes or Pilates because it doesn't require me to be quite so coordinated, LOL. But hey, I got some cardio in for the week.
At Target yesterday I found the most adorable Peeps easter baskets. So I bought two, a pink one for my niece and and a blue one for my nephew. In my search for a photo of one, I found some of these baskets for sale on Ebay. Except they are being sold for highway robbery prices. Why the hell would someone bid over $11 + $5.99 S&H for an item you can buy at Target for $3.88 + tax this week? Explain this to me.....
And why anyone would feel comfortable taking over $15 for an item that cost the person $5 at most. I know I wouldn't. I guess I have a conscience AND a brain. Quite a deadly combination. LOL.
House Panel Seeks to Keep Schiavo Alive. "Working against the clock, House lawmakers tried to prevent doctors in Florida from removing the feeding tube Friday from a severely brain-damaged woman."
We are more humane to our animals than we are to our fellow human beings. In fact the only one benefitting from keeping this poor woman alive is maybe the the parents who have received money from the GOP.
"This inquiry should give hope to Terri, her parents and friends and the millions of people throughout the world who are praying for her safety," House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Government Reform chairman Tom Davis said in a joint statement. "This fight is not over."
Uh guys....she's been brain dead for a number of years. She's never going to get better. What kind of life are you fighting so desperately to save?
You are all wasting your energies and money on a vegetable while children go to bed hungry. I don't see you all fighting to save these children from violence and poverty, when they actual have the potential to be active Americans. Instead you champion the life of a woman whose brain died long ago, but her body is being kept alive by artificial means.
And tell me who is praying for her safety? Do you really think there are millions of such people? I think not. I am ashamed at our legislators who have not allowed this woman to pass away peacefully and instead torture her husband to watch her like this day in and day out.
If she were a dog or a cat she would have been put to sleep to prevent her suffering. As a human she's forced to "live" if you want to call it that.
How could any God condone such selfish behavior?
The right wing pundits are now pushing the idea that the Democrats have no right to object to the Bush Social Security Plan unless they have a counter-proposal of their own. Let me get this straight. The Democrats know that they find serious flaws with the Bush Plan, at least with the mere outline Bush has given. (He would appear to lack much in the way of details in spite of touring around the country touting his plan.) Yet they need to "shut up," as Bill O'Reilly would say, unless they have their own idea. How silly is that?
They absolutely need to be a part of the Social Security debate. They need to express the doubts and concerns that exist in terms of both whether Seocial Security is truly in crisis and what kind of fixes it needs.
Unlike Iraq, where many Americans wanted to beat up on Saddam Hussein and didn't care whether Bush was telling the truth or not, on Social Security the American people are much more cautious. This impacts their lives in a much more direct way. And they ain't liking what Bush has to offer. Nor do they trust the guy much.
I think George and Karl Rove underestimated the American people. Now that they are looking bad, they want to divert some of that negative attention away from themselves and onto the Democrats.
And the Dems need to hold their ground. At most they should indicate that they have an arsenal of ideas to deal with Social Security--not so much of an overhaul but rather things to tweak it. And then leave it at that.
I've been dabbling a bit with online dating. I did have a very brief date last month, which made me question whether this is feasable to continue. After taking a bit of a break, I've started looking again.
One thing I've noticed is a number of guys want a woman who is "content with her life." I mean I keep seeing this phrase over and over. First off, if a woman was completely content with her life she wouldn't be using an online dating service, LOL. Secondly, wouldn't someone who is content lack goals? I mean shouldn't one always strive to improve themselves and their life?
This phrase just started to irk me after awhile. It's like you need not apply if you are not happy with your job. Or with anything else.
I mean I like who I am, but that doesn't mean I couldn't improve certain aspects of my life. When guys say this, what the hell do they mean?
Here are some photos from my last day in Hawaii. Sue has the rest of my digital photos on her laptop. I'll have to wait for her to burn them and mail them to me.....
The photos from the North Shore show how crummy the weather got there that day. All the other days had great weather. At least it wasn't pouring at the North Shore like I heard it was in Honolulu that day......

And here are photos from that morning on the Big Island where the weather was perfect....this is the Turtle House where we stayed. It was the most adorable homey cottage you could imagine:

After having a fabulous trip to Hawaii, I am back to work. Yesterday, I was pretty tired, but somehow made it through the day. Having no boss for the day helped, LOL.
A comment I kept hearing over and over again is that I didn't get much/any color. I actually did get a bit, including burning my ankles where I missed with the sunscreen. But by wearing 30 or even 15 SPF sunscreen, even in Hawaii, I don't get that much color at all. I need to wear 8 or 10 since I have olive toned Italian skin. The bit of color I did get was from my day hiking at Volcanoes Nat'l Park when I didn't wear any sunscreen, except for what my facial moisturizer provided.
Hopefully I'll be posting more about my trip over the weekend. For now, I gotta make it through a Friday at work. ;)
One more entry before I go.....
Thank God for inaccurate forecasters! Had we really gotten a foot of snow, I might have had difficulties flying out tomorrow. Anything delaying my trip to Hawaii would have been BAAAAD. LOL.
Instead all is good. Now I just have to finish packing tonight. I'm so ready for warmth and sunshine!
